About Counselling

About me

Hi, My name is Sarah Tearne, I support people who feel they have lost themselves- in relationships, in anger they don't fully understand, or stuck in repeated life patterns - to help them reconnect with who they are, set healthier boundaries, and move forward with clarity.

I am kind natured with an empathic understanding. I pride myself on being approachable, open and honest. I am passionate about supporting people with their mental health and feel it important that we all can communicate our feelings in times of difficulties without fear of judgement.

I have experience in long- and short-term counselling with a variety of clients who were presenting with different difficulties. I am passionate about helping people to regain mental health wellbeing and love seeing the progress that my clients make on their journey of self-discovery. The Person-centred theory suits my ethos as I believe that we all have the capacity for growth and self-actualisation. My role in the therapeutic relationship is to provide a non-judgmental environment to help clients explore themselves honestly.

About Person-centred Counselling

Person-centerd theory is a humanistic approach to therapy, which was founded by an American psychologist Carl Rogers, he believed that given the right conditions a person can reach their full potential and become their true self which he called ‘self-actualisation’.

To help you achieve Self-Actualisation I will offer you

  • unconditional positive regard (UPR) – accepting and valuing you
  • congruence - being honest and transparent in how I experience you and your world
  • empathic understanding – seeing your viewpoint as if I was you

How I work and how counselling helps

I am non-directional which means you will bring your own problems, and I will be led by you. My role as your counsellor is to help you explore your worldwide view, own issues and feelings to enable you to explore and become more self-aware to achieve greater independence.

My aim is to build a trustworthy relationship in which you feel supported to disclose whatever is troubling you, to enable you to cope with current or future problems. Counselling can help you uncover and process the conscious and the unconscious in which you process things today, this may be something from early childhood to present day.

Counselling can help you to make changes and learn new coping strategies which will positively impact your self-esteem, social/work life, family and relationships.

As your therapist I will help you identify and discover your own abilities, I can support you to build on your self-confidence and treat you as the expert in your own life as no one else knows what it feels to be like you. I will not judge you, regardless of what issues you bring to therapy.
